A personal note from the CEO and owner of Sunshine Travel, Dawn C. Krosnowski:
"Within the last year I noticed how much the staff here at Sunshine Travel brought their concern for global warming into their everyday practices in the office. Little things like reusing scrap paper, turning off lights and even having a set of "office silverware" instead of using plastic, truly make a difference for our environment.
While I adopted these practices myself and increased my awareness of my own carbon footprint, I realized that the greatest contributor to greenhouse gasses is the tours themselves.
Granted, group travel is literally the most efficient way to travel producing the least amount of carbon emissions when compared to driving separately as families to a destination. (One gallon of diesel from a motorcoach can provide over 180 passenger miles!) That said,
the average tour creates almost 10 short tons of carbon emissions. That’s what it takes to provide electricity to an average home for a year.
When you think of the emissions generated from the motorcoach and then consider how much energy the hotels use in just laundering linens alone, the impact on the environment adds up. Once you include that the average person creates 4.5 pounds of garbage per day, you’ve got a sizable addition to global warming gasses.
Once I discovered this, I knew Sunshine Travel must change our practices in order to protect our environment for future generations.
Here is how Sunshine Travel has resolved to make your next tour with us Green:
- When available, Sunshine Travel prefers to book motorcoaches using biodiesel, a clean burning alternative fuel made from domestic, renewable resources.
- My company will offset the carbon emissions from your hotel, motorcoach transportation and the average waste each passenger creates so your tour will have a net-zero impact on global warming.
- With Sunshine Travel, your group will help build and support new clean and renewable sources of energy that reduce global warming pollution and create sustainable economies for Native Americans, family farms, and local communities.
There is no extra charge to you or your group to carbon offset your tour. It's just something that we believe is the right thing to do.
Happy traveling,
Dawn C. Krosnowski
